How to Utilize Information, Tips from Industry Events

When attending fleet industry events, like RTA Connect, you are typically inundated with tips on best practices, information on new tools and equipment, and ideas to improve your fleet operation.

While these tips can motivate you during the event to take action and make changes, you can lose focus and forget to incorporate the ideas when you get back to the day-to-day grind.

To ensure you don’t lose the information, use these tips to incorporate new ideas into your operation.

Prioritize the Information

There can be a lot of information coming at you in a short amount of time at a conference or other industry event. Because of this, you might go into information overload. This can cause you to get overwhelmed and stop absorbing information.

To avoid this, it’s important to acknowledge that you won’t be able to use all the information you are given at a conference. Instead, prioritize the tips that will help you improve your fleet operation. Determine which ones can have an immediate impact on your operation and which information could be classified as “nice to have.”

Set Goals

Once you prioritize the information that’s most relevant to your fleet operation, set a goal of how many of these tips you will incorporate into your operation – and how you will do it. Try to make a list of three to five items to ensure the list is achievable but also large enough to make a difference at the fleet operation.

Create a Timeline

To ensure you can complete the goals, create a timeline for accomplishing them. This will give you due dates to keep you on track. These dates should be realistic enough to allow you time to accomplish the goals, but also aggressive enough to ensure they don’t get pushed aside for other priorities.

Be Accountable to Fellow Attendees

When at the conference, try to make connections with other attendees who can help hold you accountable for completing your goals. Whether it’s an instructor, a peer or an industry expert, try to find someone you can reach out to and check in with to update on your progress.
